Our challenge

Being a professional photographer isn’t easy or inexpensive. Not only do you need talent, passion and dedication. Professional photographers often go to incredible lengths to take pictures by hiring expensive equipment, scouting models, travelling on a shoestring or preparing for weeks to get the right shot.

Like any content creator, they depend on revenue generated by their work. Like any other professional, there is no doubt they should be fairly rewarded.
The reality is different. Once images go online, they often get used without recognition or remuneration. On average, a picture created by a professional photographer is being used five more times without permission.

Copyright infringement is not only a legal offence. It damages the reputation of a photographer as well as their legitimate clients. It destroys the exclusive value of their unique work. It threatens the future of the creative industry.

We believe in the power of photography and the value in creativity.

Our mission

What’s the solution? There are legal or tech companies offering to pursue illegitimate uses. In doing so, these services get to decide how to detect, filter, process, claim and settle infringement cases. They act without deep understanding of the licensing industry or our long-term interest to protect, educate and grow the market. Success rates are based on volume only. This is often counter to the best interests of content creators.

We, an international alliance of high-end photographic agencies, believe that copyright protection should be returned to the hands of the photographers and their legitimate representatives. Traffic should be routed back to the content creators. The online marketplace should be educated to protect legitimate customers. Lost revenue should be recovered to benefit the legitimate rights holder.

Our Mission is to ensure copyright protection of professional rights holders and recoup lost licence fees. Beyond this we hope our enforcement of copyright laws will also affect behaviour to reduce or remove assumptions that creative content on the internet is free to use. We believe in the power of photography and the value in creativity.

It’s time to regain control. That’s why we created Rights Control, an exclusive and unique boutique service for high-end content creators.
